Early September 2020 Urban Exploration

Still catching up ! A few sculptures in this post – I never thought to include them in ‘street art’ but they are one of the original versions of ‘street art’.

Myfanwy Macleod Sculpture

I noticed this cool sculpture on Bay St at the beginning of September. Blogto just did entire article about it.. Turns out it’s by Myfanwy Macleod. Can’t wait until they remove the fencing around it.

YorkVille Murals

This years Yorkville Murals Festival finished up with a mural by Bird0. I haven’t seen it.. it’s a the top of a parking lot and the only people that can see from one of the condos above.

If you have a drone you would get a great shot.

Jason Botkin Mural

The mural by Jason Botkin replaced a paste up by Mr. Brainwash

I wasn’t a fan of the Mr. Brainwash piece and it was flaking away in a few spots… so the new one is much better.

Young Jarus Mural

My fave of the whole Yorkville Murals Festival is of course this one by Young Jarus.

Jaume Plensa Sculpture

So I was watching a documentary last month about Jaume Plensa and I thought wow.. I wish Toronto had one of his sculptures..

Turns out the documentary was a bit of teaser.. because we have not one but two now. Apparently there’s another one of his works at the airport terminal. But this is the first giant figure in Toronto. It’s in the middle of the business district and it’s perfect spot for this.

I was walking by a couple of weeks ago and I saw this giant head but it looked like it was getting ready to be unveiled. So I couldn’t see the entire sculpture because of the plywood etc. But I knew right away that it was by Jaume Plens – because of the documentary I had just watched. Apparently it’s been in works since 2017.

I went back again and it’s a wow experience ! The sculpture appears like an optical illusion.. it’s incredible to see in person. I took so many pictures that I think I made the security guards nervous. There was a small placard at the base that simply says “Jaume Plensa Dreaming 2017”.
