Christina Mazzulla Feature Artist

At this time this is Christina Mazzulla’s latest mural that I can’t wait to see.

In a recent article on another blog Christina was featured:

“Social distancing has altered my practice drastically for the time being. Due to Covid-19 my work place has closed down. I was working full time as a tattoo artist in a downtown studio. Although I have continued to create designs for myself and clients, I have completely stopped tattooing during this period.

With this extra time I have shifted my creative direction to oil painting. I have been painting for a while now, but was previously using oils combined with other materials, to create intricate mixed media cut-out paintings. However, now that I am no longer able to work in my studio, nor have the luxury of such a complex set up, I have cut down my material use to the bare minimum; oil paint, and panel. I am temporarily working out of my partners kitchen, with few supplies, so you can imagine how drastically different this simplified “studio” setup is.

She Does the City

Got me thinking of featuring her myself. The following are just some of the murals that I have come across over the last 5 years.

Christina Mazzulla Women Paint 2017 Mural

First up is this mural and the first time that I saw her working in person.

This was for the first Women Paint Toronto Art Jam.

This was first her contribution to the ButterFly Laneway Project back in 2017. Nick Sweetman organizes it every year. I think there was a pollination theme that year.

Christina Mazzulla Light Up Laneway 2018 Mural

For these big group projects usually they have what they refer to as the ‘Big Wall’. Back in 2018 the Big Wall for Light Up Laneway was assigned to Christina Mazzulla – Alex Bacon and Nick Sweetman.

You can see she was still working on this section. CityTv news was filming.

Then a year later in the same parking lot Christina worked with Alex Bacon for this mural.
