Church Street Mural Project
Because it’s Pride Day ????️???? today… I thought I would post some of the murals that are on Church St. These were some of the murals created for World Pride back in 2014.
Intersections by Meera Sethi
“Intersections is a four-storey, outdoor, public mural that makes use of the textile histories of South Asia to celebrate queer and trans South Asian activism and communities in Toronto.”

Christiano De Araujo Bath House Mural
This mural is an artist depiction of bathhouse raids of 1981. This is on the side of a former gay nightclub that at one point was the oldest gay club in Canada.
He has a video of the making of this mural here:

The 519 Mural
Another mural by Christiano De Araujo in the gay village. This is outside of the 519 which is a community centre. It was also created for World Pride in 2014.

Village Mural
I don’t know who did this mural.. I should find out.. These pictures are from 2015.. The paint was really peeling off even back then. Every time I go by here the paint just keeps peeling off. The mural portrays some of the drag queens in the village. That’s why it says “This area for party people crew and performers and village royalty only” ????️???? b

Elicser Elliott Drag Queen Mural
This mural by Elicser Elliott was another one created during world pride. The characters on the side of this building are drag queens.. which is fitting because this is a drag bar.

Spudbomb Pride Mural…
This was done back in 2016 again for Pride. It was done by Spudbomb and was a Tribute to the community from the Police. Unfortunately, there was backlash from some activists during the presentation of this mural..
