I love cheese tagging graff that I found back in 2010. Never found out what this was all about. Someone had written ‘it ain’t easy being cheesy’ around town
I think what I liked about this particular graffiti piece was the use of 4 different colors. Most taggers just used a simple black marker. Some used white.. but this one was the firs that I had seen with multiple color – blue, pink, green and off course orange. The color of cheddar cheese.
This was pre- outside the box. A lot the traffic signal boxes became canvass for graffiti writers. They started putting wraps on these boxes with artwork in Toronto. I’ve noticed the wraps in other cities like Ottawa, Hamilton and Burlington.
Think I mentioned before that the wrapped traffic signal boxes are not a fave of mine. However, from a city perspective it is probably cheaper to use a wrap. Otherwise they would have to continually clean these boxes.
The painted Utility boxes don’t stay clean for very long. A lot of the artists that I talked with say they don’t like having to refresh their work. Apparently, it is cost prohibitive to treat all the hand painted boxes so that they can’t be tagged. Hence we have the wrapped boxes.
In years past I had let the artists know when their artwork had been tagged on these boxes. At first they were glad that I had let them know. But after telling several of them several times about their art being tagged I stopped.
Personally I wouldn’t mind if they went back to these old school boxes from 15 years ago and just let them be. Not everyone likes graffiti.. but some of do like graffit !
It ain’t easy to love graffiti !
