All about Instagram Followers. Not really that much about art although, there are a few captures of some of the artwork that I have seen over the year
INSTAGRAM UPDATE
This is not a rant or diatribe, its just what’s going on. There are no bad vibes here whatsoever – just want to make that clear.
This short video is just what I have been dealing with on my account here lately.
When, I first joined this community less than 2 years ago, I didn’t know what to expect. People said they liked my photos, so I wanted to share some of my pictures. That was it.
Along the way I discovered street art & I posted pictures of that. I didn’t know anything about it. Since then, I’ve DM’ed with some of the best artists in Toronto. For that I am so grateful.
Unfortunately, since Instagram has decided to compete with Snapchat, I have found that a large group of people on here are mostly concerned with getting as many followers as possible. It seems to be a younger persons game – if I was younger I would probably be playing the same game. But I am not that young – which is why I have my photo in my profile.
There’s also bots that are doing a lot of the ‘follow’ and ‘unfollows’ on here. It just becomes a silly exercise in stupidity. When I joined it was for the great photography and art on here. Now I see more memes & selfies, which is honestly not that interesting to me. (I’ve seen people repost my images as their own – which is another issue for another time.) I am not leaving Instagram.. but I am not as ‘engaged’ as I was 2 years ago. I’ve seen some people that I really enjoyed following delete their accounts or stop posting altogether (Collen, Jesse and Milan – to name a few). Very sad to see them leave.
I still like this place a lot, it is way better than Facebook or Twitter hands down. However, I don’t see myself trying to play follow games with Fitness Models etc. Its just not why I am here.
In the future I will be mostly posting the Street Art that I come across. I have connected with a lot of the artists on here.. and it seems the best way share what I enjoy & forget about the nonsense of the follow/unfollow. Life is too short.
If you enjoy my posts.. thank you for following but I honestly can’t follow any more people back, I am at my limit. It’s taking up more time than I anticipated.
